Your Pillowcase Might Be Causing Your Breakouts

Waking up with breakouts is THE WORST. And for those of us who have battled with acne for so long? Such a traumatic morning! But if your skincare routine is good then what is causing this overnight?

The answer is your pillowcase. Think about it, we try so hard not to touch our face with our hands, but then the face is touching the pillow for 8 hours Every. Single. Night.

Breeding ground for bacteria

Little did you know your pillowcase is a breeding ground for bacteria that lead to odours, stains, and especially acne.

This happens more or less depending on the pillowcase’s materials. Satin, linen and cotton are some of the most absorbent materials. So any oil or dirt from your hair, skin or the environment will be lurking on the case surface, later transferred back to your skin, causing clogged pores and blemishes.

How to improve it

1. Always wash your face before bed

Seems obvious, but it is a great way to prevent dirt and grime from getting onto your beddings.

2. Sleep on natural silk pillowcases

These materials breathe better and transfer less oil. Purpose™ Silver Mulberry Silk Pillow Case is tested to prevent up to 99.9% of bacterial growth, with antibacterial silver and breathable fibre that will manage dryness, oiliness and prevent clogged pores.

3. Laundry your pillowcase regularly

For acne skin, 10 days of use is recommended for our Mulberry Silver Silk cases. But If you are still using cotton or satin cases, make sure to wash them every 2 to 3 days. For really sensitive skin, you may want to avoid using fabric softeners, even fragrance-free ones.
